Today is election day in Canada! But how do we talk about elections in Chinook Wawa?

yawa hid lik tilikom mamuk nim iht man pus taii kopa klaska. klaska iskom aisak, pus klaska taii.

Then the Head Lake people named a certain man to be chief for them. They chose Isaac to be their chief.

Elections are nothing new so we have several examples of how they were spoken of in BC Chinook, which you can read in this document here (transliterated into BC Learners’ alphabet and translated with commentary by Dr. David Robertson). So with that said:

Iskum tlaksta pos taiyi yaka kopa nesaika!

Choose someone so that they’re leader for us!

In other words, go vote!
